The last concert of the year at the Porvoo Jazz Club features the incredible guitarist Olli Hirvonen and his band, who has made a remarkable international career. Originally from Lappeenranta and now living in Brooklyn, USA, Olli Hirvonen is one of the most distinguished musicians of his generation, whose unique expression draws influences from a wide range of genres, including jazz, experimental music, and heavier styles. Hirvonen won the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition in 2016 and has worked alongside several renowned international artists.

Hirvonen's latest album, "Kielo," deepens his playing and composition with earthy influences. The album's rich sound palette consists of modern jazz, rootsy Americana, and gritty folk-rock shades. The prestigious American jazz publication Downbeat Magazine selected it as one of the best albums of 2023, and AllMusic described its sound as “a fiery rocket breaking through Earth’s atmosphere.”

On the tour in Finland in 2024, Hirvonen will be joined by Irish bassist Simon Jermyn, known for his work with bands like Jim Black and John Zorn, as well as American drummer Sam Ospovat, who has settled in Tuusula and has worked with notable artists such as Lydia Lunch, Brandon Seabrook, and the band Enablers.
