DESCRIPTION

In this workshop, we will explore the source of the actor’s physical life: breath and pulse. By connecting with our individual source of inner life and creativity, we can access a deeper emotional connection with ourselves and with fellow performers.

We will practice listening through various senses. The physical and emotional pulse of oneself, one’s character, and the ensemble as a whole will be explored. Through exercises in voice, movement, sound, imagination, spatial awareness, and presence, both dynamic and subtle forms of impulse and expression will be awakened. Sound, speech, and movement will be guided toward their natural flow.

We will work individually, in pairs, and as a full ensemble.

Please come prepared with a monologue memorized in the language of your choice. It is also recommended that you familiarize yourself with your character’s arc in the play, so you can approach the role with a deeper internal understanding of their journey.

Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement. We will work barefoot.

TEACHER

Anu Almagro is a Finnish actor, pedagogue, and director working internationally. Her main artistic commitment has been with the internationally acclaimed Teatr Pieśń Kozła / Song of the Goat Theatre in Wrocław, Poland, where she was a core ensemble member from 2007 to 2021. She was one of the principal performers and co-creators in numerous productions that toured North and South America, Europe, the UK, and Asia.

Her pedagogical work has led her to teach Acting workshops around the world, including as a visiting lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and the University of the Arts in Zürich, Switzerland. She began her role as a Lecturer in Acting at Uniarts Theatre Academy Helsinki in autumn 2024. www.anualmagro.com
